The Canon DC100 isn't as high quality as the Sony HDR-UX20, but it's much less expensive. It features a 1/6-inch CCD sensor with a 25x zoom to capture VGA videos. This resolution is equivalent to the resolution of a mobile phone video. However, the DC100 can record onto both a DVD and a secure digital (SD) card. Plus, it's extremely compact and easy to carry, and it supports Dolby Digital surround sound audio.
The Panasonic HDC-TM700 is a more expensive but ultra-high quality DVD camera that includes a premium optical system that can make up for hand shake. Consumers can record 1080p high-definition videos that are clear, even if in the middle of a windy storm. The camera also includes a long-lasting battery pack, an integrated display for previewing videos directly from the camera and included software for adding titles and texts to a recorded DVD video.
The Kodak Zi8 doesn't offer the quality of the Sony, Canon or Panasonic cameras, but it features fairly decent video and audio and standard photos. However, it doesn't accept standard DVDs; it uses mini DVDs. These are smaller and contain less space than conventional DVDs, but they can still be played on any tray-loaded DVD player.
